Things In My Grandmother's House

“It is strange how we hold on to the pieces of the past while we wait for our futures.”
― Ally Condie
I have traveled around the world. I've lived in many places, many houses, many rooms... gone through many different phases through the years. Now, as an adult, I find myself searching more and  more for the few things in my life that have been constant through the years. My grandmother has moved only once since I was born, but there are so many objects in her home that have remained the same through my 22 years of life. These objects are some of the few things that give me a sense of 'coming home' whenever I visit her, there is a security, a familiarity. They are a rare thing... something unchanging. And I absolutely love that. Here are an assortment of trinkets that I've grown up knowing and loving as  "Things In My Grandmother's House".

My Mommom is the queen of trinkets! I don't know what they are all from, but these little faces are a constant from my earliest memories as a child visiting Mommom. :) The two men under the umbrella are two of my favorites.

Mommom has hundreds of these little people. I'm not exaggerating... HUNDREDS! It's like a borrowers infestation! ;) They're adorable!

The house is full of reminders of my grandfather's Air Force career and I love it. :)

These "mini-house" scenes are my favorite! I just adore them in my grandmother's kitchen!

I'm very curious to whose baby picture is in that little glass frame! I have no idea, but this man in the cap is one of my favorite pieces!

I always thought these French peeps were so silly for not wearing any shoes!

This painting has been over the mantle for as long as I can remember.

I love this picture of my grandfather, Charlie Kerns! My grandfather only knew me as a infant, but I wish I could have known him.

Probably my favorite piece in my grandmother's house! Love dolphins!
