I can’t wait to tell you all about it!
In the last two weeks of school before Chun Jie (Chinese/Lunar New Year), our school celebrated with an entire week dedicated to our host country. Throughout the week students and staff were treated to glimpses of traditional Chinese culture in the form of kite designing, jiaozi making, shadow puppets, and sugar painting. The week finished off with assemblies where students and staff performed. The event showcased everything from traditional dances (both fan and ribbon dancing), singing popular Chinese songs, ancient poem recitations, and ended with a great big feast full of celebratory foods. It was really special to see our national staff and students take the reins and put their culture, traditions, and values on display with pride. I definitely felt closer to China throughout the entire week. I also never realized how important and HUGE of a celebration and holiday Lunar New Year is in China. Imagine Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving, and Independence Day all wrapped into DAYS worth of celebration. We have two weeks off for the celebration. Most regular Chinese schools would have off the entire month of February (it can even be longer at the university level). This is because a majority of Chinese people will travel across the country to be with their extended family for some duration of the holiday. There will be much feasting and LOTS of fireworks. A majority of stores and shops will close (some have already) for a large chunk of this time. This is the holiday that Chinese look forward to most! It was so special to get to celebrate China in such an authentic way in school! All the pictures were taken by our national staff throughout China week! This week is the start of break and I’m in South Korea for 8 days!
I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Sounds like a lot of fun! After I graduated high school, Veritas started a day of celebrating the Chinese New Year. It is only for one day, but it sounds like fun. What sounds even better is actually being in China and going all out just like you are experiencing! Keep enjoying it!
